Construction of a beach volleyball court
Why build a beach volleyball court? What is the phenomenon behind this sport?
Building a beach volleyball court brings many benefits, both for the local community and for those who manage sports facilities. Beach volleyball has gained enormous popularity worldwide, both as a recreational and a professional sport. Thanks to its simple rules and dynamic gameplay, it attracts people of all ages and skill levels. Playing beach volleyball is an excellent form of physical activity that develops coordination, agility, and fitness. Encouraging the community to be active outdoors helps promote a healthy lifestyle.
In addition to beach volleyball, a sand court can be used for other beach sports, such as beach soccer or frisbee, which increases its utility.
How is a beach volleyball court built? – step by step
The construction of beach volleyball courts is a task that requires consideration of specific standards and recommendations to ensure proper playing conditions. It is worthwhile to use the services of professionals like GRIMAR, which will make every stage of the construction enjoyable. As projects can be tailored to the individual needs of clients, each investment will differ, but given that there are several basic stages, below is a general overview of the construction process for such a court, taking into account key aspects:
1. Location Selection and Ground Preparation
Choose a location with appropriate dimensions, usually with easy access and good sun exposure. All debris, stones, and vegetation must be removed from the surface where the beach volleyball court is to be built. It is necessary to verify if the ground has adequate drainage; if not, it will need to be installed to ensure proper water runoff.
2. Dimensions and Area Marking
The standard dimensions for a beach volleyball court are 16 meters long and 8 meters wide. The court area and the safety zones around it must be marked out, usually at least 3 meters wide on each side.
3. Sub-base and Sand Layers
A layer of gravel or aggregate is laid on the prepared ground as a sub-base to ensure drainage. Then, several layers of sand with a thickness of 30-40 cm are applied. The sand should be clean, fine-grained, and free of impurities and stones to minimize the risk of injury.
4. Installation of Posts and Net
The next stage is the installation of the net on the court. The posts on which the net will be mounted should be stable and made of corrosion-resistant materials. According to current recommendations, the net should be installed at the correct height, depending on the players’ gender — it should be set at a height of 2.43 m for men and 2.24 m for women.
5. Markers and Court Lines
Tapes or elastic ropes can be used to mark the court lines. The lines should contrast with the color of the sand so they can be easily distinguished.
6. Safety Check
GRIMAR’s staff will exercise all due diligence to ensure the entire structure is stable and safe for use.
Building a beach volleyball court requires not only the right knowledge and experience but also regular maintenance to ensure optimal playing conditions in accordance with international standards.
